A Vision For the Future
The future of any breeding program lies in the accomplishments of its youngsters. We are exceptionally proud of the successes that Iron Spring Farm offspring have enjoyed. From Olympic competitors to champions at Dressage at Devon and CBLM, the sons and daughters of our stallions help us to realize our vision of producing the best horses America has to offer.
The Breeding Program
Over the years, Mary Alice has imported a number of stallions from Europe. The first were from Germany, then Poland and now she primarily focuses on Dutch Warmbloods and Friesians. She describes both breeds as "big, easy horses who are willing to work." And these "big, easy" horses have certainly been good to her. After more than 30 years in business, Iron Spring Farm is recognized as the most successful sport horse farm in America.
The reason for the farm's success stems from the commitment and passion of it's owner and her staff:
Our top priority is the health and well-being of the horses in our care. We paid particular attention to designing the farm with every advantage for the horses. The spacious pastures with rolling hills offer natural exercise and balanced nutrition. Indoor/outdoor dressage facilities, a jumping arena and a cross-country course provide year-round training opportunities. A special breeding shed is attached to the lab and mare barn for safe and efficient breeding. Each safety-equipped barn has large box stalls for the horses' comfort and convenience.
We conduct all breeding by artificial insemination to ensure safer, more sanitary conditions and to encourage a high number of pregnancies. Our large foaling stalls are continuously monitored by closed-circuit TV cameras and a full-time foaling technician. Every reasonable precaution is taken to ensure a safe birth and a live foal. For mare owners who wish to keep their mares at home and personally supervise their breeding and care, Iron Spring Farm also provides frozen and fresh-chilled transported semen.
The Stallions
Producing the athletes of tomorrow is an art that requires a solid foundation in the past, as well as a vision for the future. We have spent years cultivating some of the finest bloodlines the sport horse world has to offer. Each of our stallions demonstrate unique talents and characteristics; each has proven their ability to pass these traits on from generation to generation.
