Goffert 369 Rest in Peace

January 1, 2009 It is with much sadness that we announce that Goffert 369 was euthanized February 13, 2007. He suffered from colic and although every effort was made to save him the damage was irreparable. "Herbie" was a very special horse in every way. He was not only an unforgettable Grand Prix performer and sire of champions, but also a real superstar. In Holland he was treated with respect and great admiration.

We also send our condolences to his rider and trainer Belinda Nairn-Wertman.

He was one of a kind and we feel blessed for the time we had with him.

Goffert 369 Euthanized

January 1, 2009 Coatesville, PA—Iron Spring Farm’s popular Friesian stallion Goffert 369 was euthanized Tuesday, February 13, 2007. The Grand Prix competitor colicked and although every effort was made to save him, the damage was irreparable. Goffert 369, known as “Herbie,” was a beloved spokesman for the Friesian breed. Known for his tremendous athletic ability and intelligence, Goffert had a fan base around the world. In 2004, he performed at the 125th Anniversary Celebration of the Friesian Studbook where more than 10,000 fans showed their appreciation with uproarious applause and a standing ovation.

“Goffert was one of a kind,” said Mary Alice Malone, owner of Iron Spring Farm. “He truly was a superstar and we feel very blessed to have had the chance to know him.” Goffert’s likeness was captured in a popular Breyer model in 2006.

Goffert’s competitive career with Belinda Nairn Wertman included wins at the Grand Prix level at prestigious shows such as the Zada Cup in Florida and Dressage at Lexington with scores as high as 74%. “Goffert was a once in a lifetime experience,” said Nairn Wertman. “I have never met a more intelligent horse in my life or shared such a bond. He and I were simpatico—nothing ever needed to be said; it was just understood. He was an ambassador for the Friesian horse and I believe he will continue to be. I am so grateful to Mary Alice for giving me this experience. It was a privilege to know Goffert.”

By the Preferent stallion Reitse out of the Star mare Nynke J, Goffert was a sought after sire. He was approved on offspring and received First Premium status each year he was presented to the FPS. Goffert was one of the few FPS approved stallions to compete at Grand Prix.

“Goffert was always an impressive athlete,” Malone continued. “We are very grateful to Belinda and the entire Inspo team for showing him to his best advantage. We miss him already.”
