Iron Spring Farm’s 5-year-old stallion Lowlands and rider Dinja van Liere competed today in the first round of the German Selection Trials for the World Championships for Young Horses. The German-bred Lowlands impressed the judges and now moves on to the second round that will determine the German team for this prestigious and important championship.
“We are so proud of Lowlands and Dinja’s success,” said Meghan de Garay, breeding manager at Iron Spring Farm. “He’s a fantastic young stallion and Dinja is doing an incredible job bringing him along. It’s really fun to watch them have this big success together.”
Lowlands competed with an impressive group of 40 of Germany’s best and brightest young stars at Warendorf and was one of 14 selected to move on to the next round. The horses were observed in training and in a final selection test by the German World Championship committee, which included chef d’equipe, three-time Olympic team gold medalist, Monica Theodorescu. Round two will take place in July.
Lowlands and van Liere secured their invitation to the German selection trials last month at Hagen when they earned an 8.2 before a German judging panel.
Germany can send seven horses per age group to the World Championships, which take place August 26-29, 2021.
Lowlands was bred in Germany by B. Schrapper. He was sired by Millennium and is out of La Donna S, by Donnerball. Lowlands is approved Oldenburg and KWPN and is available for breeding in the Netherlands.
“We’ve been really excited about Lowlands’ first foals.,” de Garay said. “They’re inheriting their father’s super temperament and powerful movement.”
