Iron Spring Farm’s FEI dressage stallion Ulbert 390, Sport passed away due to old age. The 25-year-old Approved Friesian stallion was a beloved member of the ISF family and a wonderful representative of the Friesian breed. He was a successful FEI competitor, with many wins at Prix St. Georges. Ulbert also sired offspring who excelled at dressage, breed shows and keurings.
“Ulbert was a once in a lifetime horse,” said Mary Alice Malone, Ulbert’s owner and rider. “He was beautiful, intelligent and a wonderful dressage partner. After his retirement from showing, we had a new routine. His turn-out field was right next to the indoor arena and he’d wait for carrots when I was done riding. He knew his name and always came when I called him. He was very special.” His presence is missed at the farm.
Malone and Ulbert were Reserve Champions at Third Level in the CBLM Championships in 2007. From 2008-2014 they won numerous Prix St. Georges classes and high score awards against all breeds. Ulbert showcased the Friesian’s ability to excel in FEI-level dressage and was a crowd favorite at shows.
Ulbert passed his talent and good looks on to his offspring. He sired the Approved stallion Maurits 437, Sport, along with Model and Crown mares, four Preferent offspring and 122 Star mares. Numerous Ulbert offspring were keuring champions and reserve champions, including Galaxy ISF, Star, Ymkje K, Crown, Titus, and Evita ISF, Crown, who was also the FHANA IBOP Driving National Champion in 2014 with a score of 80.5.
Ulbert’s offspring inherited their father’s talent in the show ring. Albert ISF, Elite/Sport, is a winning FEI horse. Jonas ISF, Star, was a Dressage at Devon winner as a youngster and won through Third Level with scores in the 70s. Nelie of Noble received two Top 3 placings in the 2021 USDF All Breeds Awards (FHANA). Falco won more than 20 World and National Championships and Reserve Championships at the IFSHA World Championships. Ulbert was bred by M. Doller in the Netherlands. He’s by Sierke 326 out of Famke D, Star/Preferent, by Uffert 306, Sport/Preferent. Ulbert was highly ranked at his KFPS Stallion Test and was a successful dressage horse in Europe before his importation to the USA. Ulbert was highly regarded for his good gaits, beauty and dressage talent, all qualities he passed on to his offspring.
